Park Plaza Apartments

Printer-friendly version

The two-story brick apartment house at 1119 Lafayette Street was built in 1928 according to permit number 1755. Bessie Tyor owned the property and used contractors Rushnevsky & Perlmutter to construct the building at an estimated cost of $60,000. Originally called the Sonya Apartments, today it is known as the Park Plaza.

Although the architect was not revealed in the course of research, the Sonya shares much in common in terms of architectural style with other area apartment buildings designed in the late 1920s by architects such as Frederick W. Ireland, Jr. Ireland is believed to be the designer of a very similar building constructed the same year, the La Verne Apartments at 1369 Downing Street, and it is possible he also designed the Sonya.
