1029 E. 11th Avenue was constructed as an investment property for James W. Newell in 1901. Building permits #1098 and #1099 were pulled for owner Newell for two adjacent two-story brick residences at the corner of E. 11th Avenue and Corona Street. The address of the neighboring building is 1035 E. 11th Avenue. The architect on both permits is listed as George L. Bettcher, and the builder is listed as Hyde & Stuffield. Architect George L. Bettcher was responsible for the design of many commercial and residential buildings in Denver. Some of Bettcher’s best known work includes the National Register-listed Rossonian Hotel (2650 Welton Street) and the State Register-listed Denver Turnverein (1570 Clarkson Street).
