According to the original building permit, the house was built in 1892 as a 28 x 48 two-story brick residence for $5000. The house was designed by architect P.H. Reed and built by William S Cameron. The 1892 City Directory for Denver both Philip H. Reed and William S. Cameron as carpenters. The owner listed on the 1892 building permit is C.S. Davis, but research did not reveal any further connection between this property and anyone by that name.

Although the full chain of title for the 1890s was not revealed in the course of research, city directories for 1894 and 1895 show that the earliest residents of record are Mr. E. B. Mills, Vice President of Borax Soap, Mr. Charles W. Mills, co-proprietor of Mills and Goodier, a loans and investments company, and Mrs. Charles Burrell, a widow.
